I am a recently retired senior on social security and with minimal retirement income.Have been regularly filing federal joint returns with spouse until last year.We realize we are not required currently to file returns as our combined gross income is clearly below the IRS threshold and further none of the other filing requirements per IRS guidelines applicable to our situation.
Qn1. Is it OK for us not to file this year (2011), and in that case would it raise any IRS red flags?.
Qn2. Once we stop filing, how we may provide evidence/ documentation of our "not required filing" situation for use by any governmental agency for processing a benefit that normally requires tax compliance?
Thanks. Will be grateful for your advice.

I took a distribution from my IRA last year under the impression that as long as the money was returned in 60 days it was not subject to tax and penalties. I received a 1099R showing that it is taxable. What should I do? I don't want this to count against my taxable income.
I have a question about small business and tax income:
I have a small business and have been in operation for about 6 months. I have started helping customers and sold a few products BUT it looks like I will take a loss this tax year. Currently I am a Sole Proprietor and I am wondering if I should change to S Corporation or C Corporation? I want to get as much money back as I can (of course! :)
