Michigan State Income Tax Form

The State of Michigan Department of Treasury requires that you file a state income tax return form annually. When filing use form MI-1040.

What form do I use to claim my credits?

  • There are a few different credits available in Michigan. These are the most common:
  • Homestead Property Tax Credit- Form MI-1040CR
  • Home Heating Credit- Form MI-1040CR-7
  • Farmland Preservation Tax Credit- MI-1040CR-5
  • Historic Preservation Tax Credit- 3581
  • Homestead Property Tax Credit for Veterans and Blind People- MI-1040CR-2

When are my taxes due?

All income tax returns are due on April15th each year in the state of Michigan. If you find that you are unable to have your return completed on time then you may file an extension. The only way to receive an extension on your Michigan income tax is by filing an extension on your federal return. Once this is done then you will automatically receive one.

If you have your return completed by the due date but you are unable to make the payment in full then we would suggest sending in your return and applying for an installment plan. To apply for an installment plan, you will need to file Form 990.

E-filing is the most recommended way to file your Michigan income tax return. TurboTax Online offers e-filing services as well as step by step instructions to get you the biggest refund guaranteed.

TurboTax Online has state tax forms for all of the following states:

I agree with the marine Mom. Complainers should move out - like to Afganistan. If you earn taxable income, you need to file. Get your own forms. Why should I have tyo pay for you to get forms in the mail - and even print them for you??? Give me a break. I am, tired of paying for free-loaders!

Try this link to the State of Michigan website. http://www.michigan.gov/treasury/0,1607,7-121--248

So much energy is wasted complaining instead of doing.

The economy is bad everywhere, particularly in Michigan. None of us like to file, but it's a fact of life. You are savvy enough to find the article and comment. How big of a deal is it to print it yourself? Or do it on line, e-file and save a pdf. Whooop!

I agree with the guy above me. This whole state is a joke, the whole Country is about to be a part of this sad joke. Time to force the greedy aholes out and bring in people who actually will make their promises a reality

It's pretty sad that this State is so bad off that you can't mail tax forms to people who are required by law to file a tax return. I'll file and pay once my forms arrive in the mail.
