Child Tax Credit 2011, 2012 Child Tax Credit Calculator
89Child Tax Credit Deduction Calculator
If you have children who are under 17 at the end of the tax year, you can claim the child tax credit for 2011 and get a $1,000 tax credit per child on your tax return.
To claim the child tax credit, you must meet these tests:
- The dependent must be a U.S. citizen or resident, and a blood or adoptive son, daughter, stepchild, or grandchild. Foster children qualify if they lived with you as members of your household for all of 2011.
- You must report each qualifying child's tax identification number (TIN) (usually the child's Social Security number) on your return for the year that you take the credit.
Your Child Tax Credit Amount
In most cases, the 2011 child tax credit is limited to the amount of tax liability on your return. In other words, if your credit is bigger than your tax liability, your tax liability is just reduced to zero, and the rest of the credit is lost.
In certain cases, though, you can get a child tax credit refund when the credit exceeds your tax liability. This means that you would get a refund of the difference between your tax credit and what you owe in taxes. This refundable child tax credit is called the Additional Child Tax Credit, which you calculate on Form 8812.
For families with three qualifying children or fewer, this tax credit is refundable to the extent of 15 percent of taxable earned income in excess of $3,000 for 2011. For families with four or more qualifying children, the refundable amount may be the excess of the family's Social Security tax over the earned income credit, or the extent of 15 percent of taxable earned income in excess of $3,000, whichever is greater.
The Stimulus Act of 2009 made changes to the threshold amounts by a great difference. The income threshold went from about $12,500 to $3,000 for 2011 tax year, which made it much easier to qualify for the refundable additional child tax credit.
For example, Herb and Susan had a bad year, making only $25,000 on their sheep ranch. They have four children under 17. Their taxable income was zero, so they owed zero in taxes; but they will get an additional child tax credit deduction amount worth $1,835, or the excess of the family's social security tax over the earned income credit, whichever is greater.
The otherwise allowable child tax credit is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income above certain thresholds. The amount of the credit is reduced (but not below zero) by $50 for each $1,000 (or fraction thereof) that the taxpayer's modified adjusted gross income exceeds the threshold amount. The threshold amount is:
- $110,000 in the case of a joint return
- $75,000 in the case of an unmarried individual
- $55,000 in the case of a married individual filing a separate return
The total you can take is $1,000 per child, although part of that can be a tax credit and the rest in a refund. Families with three or more children can calculate the refundable credit as they did last year if it results in a larger amount.
You can use the free tax credit calculator provided by TurboTax Online
to calculate your child tax credit amount. You can also find plenty of free help & information to prepare & file your taxes online and get all the tax deductions and credits possible.
A tax credit is much better than simply a deduction. A deduction reduces the income you use to determine your taxes. The child tax credit takes those dollars directly off your tax bill.
Also, the child tax credit deduction does not affect the exemptions you take for dependents. The credit is in addition to your exemptions.

wow, i went on this site to find out how child income credit works, and all i see is people putting down each other. im a single mother of 4, i work hard, and i get some childsupport. i do not mind paying taxes, its the law! it is what it is. it takes a whole village to raise one child. stop putting each other down and help one another. good luck to you all.
The Child Tax credit is awesome for those of us who work really hard and are working to raise awesome kids who will not be a burden on society but who will give back. If social security is still around when these kids grow up and join the workforce then they will be paying for your retirement! People with kids have more bills than folks who don't, that's a fact and this helps a little, that's all. Not everyone who claims it are "burdens" on society.
I am a single mother of 2, I was not able to work for over half the year due to abuse. My children. And I was put in a safe house told by the da and police we couldn't come out til it was safe, due to the Guy being apart of a gang. That took away from me being able to get a job. Due to me not making very much that still doesn't mean I shouldn't get tax credit on my children, it takes more than 500 or even 1000 to raise a child for a year. So don't judge people because you never know their situation.
I only worked about 2 months out of the year. Can I still get a child tax credit? My ex has been claiming our daughter, but she lives with me. I'd like to start claiming her.
Illegals can't get WIC, SS benefits or anything from the government, no social security no benefits idiots
f**k you all I,m getting payed
Some people on here are asking if they can get tax credit for there kids with no jobs, YOU CANT. If you didnt work this year you dont get a W-4 which means you dont do taxes. To all the people that are looking down on parents claiming there kids, just because you claim a child doesnt mean you cant take care of them. I support my daughter 100% and my boyfriend claimed her even though we werent living with him which was fucked up but thats life. Theres nothing wrong with giving help to people who need it.
I wouldn't mind parents receiving a tax credit for having children when they need it. However, keep in mind that each child is adding to the global overpopulation problem. Too many people are having too many children. Why are the childless not also given a tax credit for helping to keep down the population growth, use of resources, etc? I don't feel that I should have to pay to help support someone else's children on a yearly basis with my tax money, any more than anyone else should be supporting me with their tax money. This country should not be picking and choosing who is more worthy of government support. The childless work, and often pay way more taxes than those with children. This is quite backward. I have no issue if someone wants to have children, but I also expect them to be responsible for their own decisions and not constantly be looking for help. The mentality in this country where people do whatever they want without forethought, then expect everyone else to bail them out is getting ridiculous. It extends from the largest banks to the smallest household. Somehow I am able to live and do what I need to do without asking anyone for help. Regardless of how difficult it may be, I figure out how to make it work. I am honestly tired of the people standing around with their hand out in this country. If you have done everything you can, and still need some help for special circumstances, I have no problem. However, the yearly drain of government $$ for those that are not willing to be responsible for themselves is getting really old. Just b/c you decided to breed doesn't make you any more special or deserving than anyone else. However, for those of you that are responsible, honest, loving, hardworking parents... I salute you. People like you are just too few and far between in this country of overindulgence and selfishness. Thank you for making your commitment to your children and your sacrifices to be a responsible adult. It is shame that all too many parents don't find it important enough to follow suit. This ever growing problem of irresponsible parenting is something I do not feel that the general taxpayer should have to bear.
Also I haven't filed tax returns since I think 2002, how do I find out if there is any money I'm owed
I'm on welfare my daughters dad is on ssi, who should file to receive the child tax credit
so i just had my son november of 2011. i havent worked in the last two years. would i still be able to get the child tax for having as a dependent when i go apply in january for it?

Question: late 2010, I was completely disabled in a car accident and was forced to resign my career in dentistry. I am a single mother of 3, and have not yet been approved for SSI, so I have 0 income. Btw, i am not a whore, all 3 kids have the same father & i am widowed and was with one man intimately. I really need money, as this last year has depleted my savings, just to survive. Can I receive EIC/child tax credit if I had no income for 2011?
I posted this question about 3 weeks ago and it was never answered because if the posts that judged everyone based on a STEREOTYPE and thinks that everyone is on welfare and are crackheads and that's why we need this tax credit. News to you my friend... Don't point fingers and judge, because when you do, you have 3 more pointing right back at you. Jesus said let he who is WITHOUT sin cast the first stone, so are you perfect and without sin? If so, I ask your forgiveness, but as it is, we are all human and DO judge, but MY judge will judge us all one day. What will your verdict be? I'll be praying for your pompous, inconsiderate, selfish ways. Thank you & bless anyone who reads this. Merry Christmas everyone.
most of you people would be in the same situation if it wasn't for your big unearned inheratince you recived from mamaw, papaw or...whoever. so unless you started your accomplishments from scratch than you have no room to say anything.
This post is for no hope in america.Get the F*%@ Out Of America if you dont like it here Freako....
I have a response to nohopefor America!! Listen here jackass not everyone who gets taxes back is that person you described! I have been married to my husband for 11 years and we have 3 kids! We use our taxes to pay bills and buy our kids stuff they need! my husband had a good job until this March when he got laid off and he is now going to school to get a good paying job since he getting unemployment we probably wont get that good tax return! Tht effects us and our kids I have to stay at home because the cost of daycare is outragous! My point is my husband and I both had good jobs until the economy went into the crapper! So yes the big returns really helped last year but dont go pointing your finger and labeling people when you dont know their sittuation! You pompus ass! Get off your high horse and think about what families in our country are going through right now and how many people like myself who lived paycheck to paycheck but love their kids and try their hardest to provide for them! So yes we get alot of money on our returns but that doesnt mean we are crackheads trust me I know there are those people out that make it hard for honest people like myself to get help cause they abuse the system!
I think people are missing the point. What most Americans is saying is that is all good if you have children and get SOME of the money back that you PUT into taxes. But for example: Someone on here made 12,000 and got back 7,800 on their tax return. REALLY?? Why should this person get back all of that money if they did not pay that in taxes. Who the heck do you think pays for that? The rest of us Americans it is not free money people.
America is nothing but a welfare nation of fatass ignorant lazy money grubbing losers. Oh have a kid When you can't afford it that's real smart now another child that will be poor and ignorant. Get your 1000.00 and spend it on your beer and cigs and McDonalds and don't forget to buy some condoms for your 16year old slutty daughter that can't keep her legs shut. Because you were to lazy to teach her self respect. Dam Americans give me give me give me!!! Where's my disability check for being a fatass!!! Good luck..

Hi, Just curious, (since I do not understand all the tax talk) since I made like $2,000 the year of 2011 and I claim 2 children on my taxes, about how much would I get back in taxes, an estimation. I do not know how much I paid out in state and federal but I know I only made like $2,000 for the year. Thanks for anyone that can help driven.1986@gmail.com
LOL... I started reading the first few responses and I noticed that these people do not know how to spell. They have no basic grammar and are unable to put a sentence together. Remind me why you make such a great parent?
I am a 49 year-old non-parent. I have no problem with my taxes going to schools and other programs that help children. However, I still don't believe it's fair that people with kids get a tax credit. It's as though the government rewards people for having children. I don't care if people have zero kids or twenty, but I don't feel it's fair that there is a financial incentive to do so. If the IRS did away with all tax credits and deductions for parents, I bet it would go a long way towards balancing the budget.
I am a mothe rof 3 and 26 I hold a part time job and go to school full time youm poeple talkn smack are just mad because you arnt mature enough to have kids and and in other words can't get the tax credit for them maybe you should get a freakin life and grow up then maybe just maybe you would relize how great it is that we can get help with stuff to make our childrens lives better!!!!!
Thanks for sharing a great article on income tax return.
when you start judging others watch what the man up stairs will do,because no one knows any ones situation unless you in there shoes.I work hard and have 3 children with a wonderful husband but we have seen that talking and making comments about others you dont know, watch what will happen because the lord don't like ugly.so keep on with your harsh words because just as well as the lord gave it to you he can take it back!!!!! so watch what you say.
Can you claim stepchildren that do not live with you on your income taxes?
me and my husband calm my two newphew this year my sister is trying to say i owe more then 2000.00 on these kids since she live with me for a year how much should i have to give here if either one of these kids were in school and my husband and i made 3600.00 hundred last year.
unfortunately, taking money from peter to pay paul has become as american as apple pie...
People amaze me with their comments concerning child tax credit !! Obviously people don't just have children to get money back at the end of the year. They have children to have a family and to enjoy your life raising and loving them. It's very pathetic to base your comments on the few people that have children carelessly and can't afford to care for them but still pretty sure it wasn't for the sole purpose being tax returns!! Obviously those of you making those comments doesn't have children because if you did you would know that 1000 per kid doesn't even make a dent towards what it cost to raise a child!! Do you know what the cost of clothes, shoes, food, a hair cut, doctors any of that kind of stuff cost these days!! You pay taxs to be able to eat and for everything else. Even if I had no children out of all the things our hard earned tax dollars are going for I would much rather see it going towards a child. Children are this worlds future and are you people teaching these children to be selfish and not a giving caring kind of person because that's what kind of person your coming across as being!! No parents usually don't hand the money straight to the kids but however it does go towards raising them no matter how it is spent rather it goes on helping towards bills, buying food, clothes, gas, furniture for your home a vehicle..hello all stuff a child needs they have to take baths, eat, dress , get to school or where ever they may need to go. I can't believe people are just so heartless and loves to complain so much. You all were children at one time and your parents struggled to raise you too. It takes a village to raise a child but they are worth every penny:)

I was wondering, I have 2 children, and have not worked for two years, I have been going to school since Nov.09, I have been drawing on my unemployment, is there any way to take the W-2s I got for school and unemployment, and recieve anything at all in a refund, I havent taken out taxes on either school or unemployment?? Thanks
TO CHILDLESS and to those of you who agree with him...
I am 22 years old and have a 2 year old daughter, my husband and the father of my daughter was killed overseas during his tour in Afghanistan. My daughter and I live of slim benefits that total less that 15,000 a year.... We were not left insurance money, nor does my daughter have a trust, the system tells me I have to put my daughters money away because it is "HERS"... leaving me with a total of 381.00 a month to live off of... I do need a refund for having a child, she deserves a refund. It isn't my, or my childs fault we are in this position. However, when going to file my taxes, they say I am not eligible for any refund at all, because the 500.00 a month that goes into my daughters account is "her income" and she supports herself... You are an ignorant fool for those words, And I hope you think twice before commenting on something you know nothing about!
if i made 16210.88 in 2010 n am claimin a 6 month bbi do i qualify for eic n how much would u think i b gettin bk
recently married, we made 53,167 this tax year, do we qualify for eic
I made 2x this year than last and now I pay 5x in taxes. What a joke. Do the math. How is anyone supposed to really get ahead when our tax system is designed to redistribute the wealth. I have 5 kids and a stay at wife and now I dint get any tax credit for them. Socialism.
I have 2 children and I made only 4000.00. How much money will I get back.
I have 2 children and I made only 4000.00. How much money will I get back.
I just filed my taxes and i got 1,800 for each of my children and i made a lil over 12,ooo last year. in all i got 7800.. just so you can get a average off of mine :]
THANK YOU meed!!!
I came to this site to get that answer and have read it asked and asked but no answer till the end and after all the ugly posts.
MEandYou,
The way a child can be 18 as a junior in high school is because they are a Dec. baby and is in the cut off date to start Kinder having to start a yr later and then like my son had to be held back a year because of missed school from medical hospital stays making him 19 when he leaves the 12th grade and graduates.
Judge much?
also, as far as child tax credit goes. If your child is over 16 they are no longer eligible. 16 yrs is the cut off...however, Earned income credit can be claimed until your child is 18 and under..or 24 as long as they are a full time student..or totally and permanently disabled (no matter the age)
the more you claim on your w4 the more you may owe at the end of the year. Claim zero on w4 and they take out more durring the year...but you get more back at the end of the year when filing. Just be careful claiming all those dependents or you will get socked with taxes owed in at the end.
So I am a mother of 2 and I am a nurse and a accountant for the airport in jax florida. I work very hard to take care of my children and buy them everything that they need, there are additional taxes taken out of diapers, wipes, formula, clothes, daycare expenses and etc; that is why we get a tax credit and if you weren't so ignorant you would know you ALSO get a eic for working which is more then we get for our children. I agree that if you don't know what you're talking about then you shouln't speak or "type" here at all.
I have a son who was born in September of 2010. I only made around 3,000 before I left for Maternity leave. Obviously this wasn't enough money to raise a child. So, my boyfriend (Not his Father) has supported him. Does anyone know if he able to claim him on his taxes instead of me?
Well Shit! If you need more money just spread your legs. I mean come on all the useless people are doing it these days. Who the hell needs a job when you make 4000 dollars a year and you have three kids, no worries right.
For all u idiots talking about mexicans this for you.. Im a 26 yr old mexican whos husband works his ass ifff. I live in huge house new cars kids in private schools.. Dont be mad at illegals be mad at your self for being so stupid and lazy, o and guess what last yr we 11000.00 back jaja oooo how I love being mexican and smarter then your stupid white gov jaja
SARAH.. Oh, and of course the "Child Tax" credit too. You may qualify for around over $2000.
Joe
SARAH... Yes you should qualify for a refund. You may receive the 'Earned Income Credit" and the "Making Work Pay" credit. The amount will vary depending...
Check online for a tax refund calculator.
Hope this helps.
Can someone answer this question about taxes for me? I just want to know if i will receive a refund this year. I have worked part-time and made minimum wage most of the year and I estimate I have made about $5000 this year. I do have one baby who is 1 year old. Do I still qualify for a refund? I am not married and will file single and I did 6 exemptions on my w-4 forms. I really need to know because the extra cash will really help me. They are cutting hours at my job now and I don't make enough money to pay rent.
@Craig
why is your daughter 18 and merely a junior in High School? I do not know your situation but this raises a few flags for me. The cutoff age, is 18 when a person is legally responsible for themselves. No question of being tried as an adult in court. Eligible to begin developing their opwn credit porfolio. I think you should focus more on giving your daughter that positive push in completing her education, rather than being upset that you cannot earn CTC for her.
"Of the world Craig"
I am a 32yr old mother of 3 beautiful girls..All I can say is wow...I have spent the last hour reading all of this nonsense..shaking my head at some of you heartless ppl..karma is a bitch..and u reap wht you sow.. you do unto others as u want done to yourself(golden rule)..you can not judge ppl until you have walked in their shoes ( I know you've heard them all before)I understand all sides of this ignorance..life isnt fair and thats just how it goes..b thankful for wht you have..for it could all b gone tomorrow then wht..you would have to eat the very cruel words you wrote when u were better off..I agree alot of things need to change taxes..goverment..school systems..job opportunities..cost of living..etc I could go on forever..so instead of being hateful and cold hearted make a differnce in such away everyone could benfit from it..wht kind of example are we setting for the future?
Lol ! Wow! Your all idiots even me for responding and keeping this go.... Nope done
I can not believe how some of you people are acting. There is a real reason why some mothers are "living off the government". Just remember not all people are the same. So what if a 20 yr old asked how much her child is worth. Some people who are even older say things that sounmd rude but come on, grow up and stop acting like your in high school still, because im sure alot of you jerks have been out of school for a long time. Just remember you guys are asking the same stuff she was, she just said it a different way.
I was told that if i would have filed late february my earned income tax would have been more since the laws are changing. Is this true?
i am claimin my little sister she is 9. how much will i get back for her. she lives with me now and did in all of 2010.
Child Tax Credit or Child Tax deduction...Tax deduction for those who have kids...Those who do not have seem up in arms...Can we please end it? People without children were "claiming" to have kids for years on their tax returns...Let's turn back the clock...
One spring evening at midnight in 1987: seven (7) million American children suddenly disappeared. The worst kidnapping wave in history? Hardly. It was the night of April 15, and the IRS had just changed a rule. Instead of merely listing each dependent child, tax filers were now required to provide a Social Security number for each child. Suddenly, seven million children-children who had existed only as phantom exemptions on the previous year's 1040 forms -vanished, representing about one in ten of all dependent children in the United States. Given that seven million children went missing I gather that a lot of you out there who are raising your fists about those who have children recieving credits and deductions had parents who were falsely claiming additional "phantom" children. Given the chance people will cheat on taxes but largely unless you make money outside of your main job, ie big investment/property income etc., you cannot cheat on your taxes only skim a bit here and there.
Bottom line find out the facts about why the tax structure exists the way it does. Read, Research and elect your officials based upon their potential abilities to effect change but do not hate those who are on the recieving end of legislation. When is the last time you voted and were active with your elected officials....
Think about it!
i just wondering i gave file taxes for th epasseas 20 year married and join, this year im planning to do head of household with two under five grandchildren, can i get penalised doing that
I was reading these comments about hoes, pimps and this 19 year old kid. First off I am dual military we wake up every day fighting for everyones freedom and this is the shit that you all talk about instead of being nice and giving a great answer to a good question we get mad about the fact that someone needs help with their kids. I have to children of my own and my husband and I are fortunate enough to take care of them thanks to the U.S. Army. It urks my nerves to see you young pathetic kids because if you knew anything about living you wouldnt judge anyone elses situation take a look at your self and think twice just because you are not struggling with child care or whatever there was a time in you life if you worked where you lived from pay check to pay check or had mommy or daddy give you money for something because you just couldnt make it. we get wiser by educating and helping those who are less fortunate than us. Take care and God Bless you all.
This article was made to inform those WITH children on what is offered as far as taxes are concerned. If you have no children then theres no need to be on this article posting non informative OPINIONS to begin with. My husband is active enlistment in the U.S. Army and just currently came back from a deployment. He works 12-16 hour days since hes been back and making sure all of you have a safe place to lay your head down at night. We have 2 children and one on the way and if we're not entitled to a little extra to help with expenses for our children each year then you really need to take a step back and look at the big picture. Like many have said before you have all gone to school and how do you think your parents would feel if people had said this to them about you and how they dont want to pay for your schooling and its a waste of money? Regardless of anyones situation, if your working and taking care of your child/children and are providing for them with or without aid, in this economy every little bit helps. Noone on this article from the arguments they have put out there are having children JUST FOR THE "HANDOUT", they full heartedly love and care for their children and are doing whatever they can to provide for them as your parents did for you. Now if we can all get off this absolutely ridiculous discussion and get back to answering those who have actual questions about their taxes and who RELATE TO THIS VERY ARTICLE we can all get on with our lives. Thank you!
my son is 17 and lives with me.. I started doing my taxes, and it came up saying I was not eligible for the child tax credit... why is this.....I dont understand
All You childless bashers- Karma is a nasty bitch and you shouldn't be so quick to judge cuz someday you might need help. Don't say it wont ever happen to you. My husband used to bust hus hump everyweek and I worked full time till I got pregnant and I had to leave my job and my husband was let go a couple months before my daughter was born. So yeah we did need help. My husband got a little on unemployment but that was all our income. I am not ashamed to admit we got wic and my daughter is on Medicaid. If we didn't have that help my daughter would not be able to go to the Dr. I am very grateful for the help we got. Not every person on ''welfare'' likes being on it. Shit happens. People need help. Getbover it. I suggest if you don't like it then move to a different country.
How much of a return I will receive I'm single filing head of household with 2 children age 14 & 2 and I made $8,200.00 for the year
i have read almost every post on this page and some of you seem to think just because some of us have relied on support from the government that we dont need kids. I have 2 kids ages 3 and 5. when they were just 1 and half and 4 months old i was gone overseas fighting for this country. i missed everything about that first year with my youngest. i have depended on government for help and i have went to school to better myself and get an education. but i still need some help. i was recently discharged from the military because of medical issues. and the tax credit is something that i use to help keep a roof over my kids head and make sure that they have what they need. i am currently unemployed due to circumstances that i can not control and i am a single parent. some of us that have kids have split from the father and can not make it without a little help. and we have paid taxes in the past and deserve to get something back to help in times of need. i know that everyone needs help in this economy but some of us need a little more than others. for example someone making 75k a year can live without a big refund due to the fact that they make so much but others making around 20k need more help. those that make more have more than those that dont have much income. yall make it sound like we are taking the tax money and just blowing it on stupid stuff in all reality most of us take that money to help are kids have a place to live and get what they need, i say most cus not all of us do. i do know some who just go out and buy what they want and not what the kids need.
Wow I can't believe I fought for people like you..... Lost brothers in Iraq. I'm sorry I have two children, and i could care less about tax money. If I get it yay for me. If not that's fine to. Regardless I don't need it. there is more to life then money. Just be happy your still alive.... Its funny where fighting a war in Iraq and afghan. When we can even work together in our own country.

the point to live is to have family and to nurture and raise them to do the same, we are pretty much animals when you break it all down. Not to make a gazillion dollars that you can't take with you. We do have brains that work differently, but if we were to think more we'd be much better off than acting first.
if i made 4780 and am claiming my 1 yr old son about how much shld i get back
To all you who are complaining about people with children getting tax credits while you are having to pay taxes and have no plans on having children... I guess you have us parents to thank for keeping our population growing. For producing and raising future leaders, government, doctors, teachers, and people who will be taking care of you when you can't take care of yourself. Goodness, having children actually is a GREAT contribution to our country.
If I live with my boyfriend and we both didn't work last year and he claims me as his dependent... About how much would we get this year.. Anyone know?
If I Made under 4000 dollars this year and i fill my new born daughter she 7months how much you think i should get back
I didnt work this year but I had unemployment for 5 months about 5000. Can I claim my 1 yr old daughter or not???
Even though my daughters mother kicked her out of her house with the clothes on her back on july 9 she gets to claim her as a dependent.thirteen days gives her the right to a few thousand extra dollars. On the other hand i file single and for five and a half monthes she lives with me it doesen t mean shit.i should quit working go on welfare and have three more kids i would make out better!!!
Common people stop being so negative..everyone in this world pay taxes whether you pay more in taxes or pay less. what ever everyone pays them stop complaining.. As for the people who receive government help and were nice clothing what do you know about them they could of had a banging job.,and the month before got laid off that dont mean they gots to throw there cloth away to look appropriate to receive food stamps think before you write non-cence in the economy struggle and now they don't have money.. stop looking and hating on people not every one has the same situation.for all the people who talked about there mothers that never i say never received government help don't forget food was cheaper, rent, gas, don't hate appreciate what they give y'all some of ya don't even deserve to receive S**T you make to much money some people can barely pay there rent with the Peace of crap they wanna pay now a days so maintain your little job so you don't have to be the next unemployed receiving unemployment or Government help LOL i bet your one of those low-ballers can i get it for cheaper type.and please don't lie to your self.. maybe you don't need it now but you never now what tomorrow can bring you.
No poz wow!
...oh yea
Hey tenesha...brenda...what u ladies doin later?
To Pat I strongly agree with you.And to Carlos if you are fed up with the mexicans taking over than maybe you should get up and work then the mexicans wouldnt take our tax money they deserve it with all the hours they put in to make a better living for there families thats why the americans hire the mexicans to work.Anyway there taxes pay for everyone that is on foodstamps and any other goverment assistance that your family might be on so you should be grateful for the mexican without them our country wouldnt be as nice as it is because they build ,they plant ,they recontruct ,and they serve and protect so stop hating on the mexicans
I think EIC is a good thing it helps people who could really use the extra money maybe people just need that extra push everyone needs to stop being so hard on each other whether your a parent or not how can u speak about what's good for anyone else if your not living in that individuals shoes make comments on facts not out of pure ignorants and don't knock it till u try it...... thank u.
I can understand both sides of the argument. I
23 and I do not have any kids. I don't think everyone is hating on the people with children that's getting the credit that spend the credit wisely. It's the people who buy themselves new clothes, hair, go out partying, and don't once think about the kids. It's the people who don't need the assistance that posses us off. I can't tell you the number of times I go to the grocery store and see these people with 3-4 kids buying groceries with their food stamps. Now that would be fine if the mom wasn't all dolled up with brand new designer clothes on and all the kids wearing the latest 100 dollar shoes. That bothers me. People just want handouts now days. They don't want to work for it.
I'm not saying do away with the assistance because it is greatly needed. But we need to have a more secure way to credit people with these programs. We need more restrictions and maybe even check ups. I'm not sure what we need but I do know we need something more secure.
For the people who do need it and use it for what it was intended for I'm not dogging you. Just the bad apples.
i read alot of this post and it's people bashing on mothers who are on welfare or just talking shit.
there is no point in asking a question on this blog because it won't get answered i seen an eighth of these questions truly answered the rest is people talking back and forth like idiots.
you guys need to seriously get a life that are talking all ghetto on this page... people are asking a simple question they wanna know how much they get bavck that's all not like theyre selling theyre child most people use the money for the children for clothes and plus im sure if they work they did spend theyre "working" money on the children for stuff for food etc so its like theyre getting a little back not anywhere near what they really spend so seriously just answer the peoples questions and go to a chatroom for the rest of the nonsense else that's written!! question = answer X not your nonsense talking thats all!
EIC is important for the people who bust their asses tring to make ends meet. Where the goverment is messed up on EIC is for the people on walfare that work as little as possible to ensure they still get their foodstamps. [hen to top it all of live in low income housing, while the government is paying for their childcare. That is where the system is messed up. I personally don't have children, and do agree with EIC but the government needs to look more into how they do the payouts. A person that gets hand outs all year long with everything I just mentioned should not receive the full tax credit. This is alot of the reason why our government is so screwed. Think about it.
STOP SAYING "HOW MUCH IS MY CHILD WORTH" REALLY COME ON NOW!
I love working 84 hours a week to pay my bills and then having to pay a crap load more of taxes for working overtime and giving it to others as a refundable tax credit. People are getting back thousands for having children and dont even work half as much as I do. My mom had 5 kids, but worked 2 jobs and went to school and was never on assistance. After schooling she made over 100,000 a year so she was paying her fair share. I will never have children because I do not want to be burden on society and make other tax payers pay for my choice. I would rather stay a slave than live off other peoples money. There shouldnt be any tax credits it should be the same. If someone chooses a more expensive lifestyle, that is their choice. Just because someone chooses to stay childless shouldnt mean they are financially responsible for others.
if i only have 3 months working that is documented with a w4 and 4 months woring as waitress getting cash can i still claim my 2 babies?
FOR THE PEOPLE OUT THERE COMPLAINING ABOUT HARD WORKING PEOPLE THAT HAVE KIDS AND GET THEY GET THE TAX CREDIT BUT NOT YOU, SUCK THAT SHIT UP AND GO SOMEWHERE AND KICK ROCKS!!!! DON'T FORGET THAT YOU WERE ONCE A CHILD, AND WHO KNOW, MAYBE YOUR PARENTS HID IT FROM YOU, BUT TRUST ME, MOST OF YOUR PARENTS WERE GETTING HELP FROM THE GOVERNMENT ALSO. REGARDLESS OF IF THEY DID OR NOT, POINT IS, WHEN YOU WERE A CHILD, YOUR MOM/DAD GOT THAT VERY SAME CREDIT FOR YOUR SELFISH ASS! B$^*@!%!!!!!!!
my kids (17yrs old less)went to my country for vacation for 6 months. can i still claim them?
I just have a child but i work. How mush does the child worth if i made 10000 dallar last year. Do i get money back for earn incone tax credit?
Ok so I'll be 18 in march my parents aren't claiming me, I have a 3 year old son born 6-1-08. I worked at a grocery store and made about 2000.00 can I apply for in come tax? Or this child tax stuff? Please help me.
My husband works very hard all year long to provide for us--myself, him, and our 2 girls. It makes me so anger for people who sit around and draw government assistance that are able to work--then it just burns my hide when they brag about how much they get back at income tax time when they did not pay a thing into taxes but bring home more than those who pay taxes weekly...My advice is if you can work get off your a@@ and do something instead of let the state pay you
My husband is in the military and he works very hard. He sometimes has to go overseas and leave me and our three kids and yes we get the tax credit. For those who made the comment about being on government assistance getting the tax credit that is not true. My husband works so please don't be judgemental.
Last years tax refund I recieved $7400.00 for child tax credit only and either my husband nor I worked at all the year before. My husband was incarcerated when I filed last year. This year it is the same senario but the same tax person is now saying that I can;t recieved child tax credit for my three girls becasue we did not work the year 2009.Is this a true statement?
Carlos, I love you.;)
I got on this site to find out about dam taxes not to get on here to find out about others it comes to our country to make a better life for thier familys maybe if some americans would get off thier lazy asses and go to work maybe we not have to hire oter people from other country to work and yes i am american so shut the hell up and find another site to insult people on
I think some of the people on here are so ignorant! I mean really one person said something about people who made less than 7000, listen here until you have been pregnant and brought a child into this world like God intended, than you should not even be allowed to talk....I have worked every year since I have been 18 and paid for schools for children too and it never bothered me, how could you lash out on patents, they are not selfish, they give up all of them selfsame to their children, so they deserve any help they can get. A lot of you idiots should just shut up have a child it might make you less of an ignorant ass!
ok to all the people who are not getting any money back or who have to pay back READ THIS CAREFULLY....i would rather have a lot of money all year like you than have to settle for the little 3 thousand dollar income tax. most ppl who work at fast food industries and stores are making 13,000 a year bussing their ass okay? and you sorry asses are the managers and bosses sitting on yalls ass getting paid 100K a year..i mean seriously have a little sense. and please don't mention that it is anyone's fault that they are working where they are because u are not God and do not make those choices some people will have to work there if not then nothing works included watever u do for a living so thank the ppl who have to buss their ass for that little shitty amount of money u efing inconsiderate human beings and remember that u might be there one day too.i have seen tool pushers go to working as janitors it IS POSSIBLE
For the "Person paying for you"
First of all...
I have a 1 year old son, and before He was born, I worked my ass off full time, 9hr shifts, 6 days a week all year long and I would always get a fairly decent tax return, NOT however because "you" were paying for it, but because "I" worked hard for it. Now that I have my son and still work full time, I have to pay for additional things like child care and my son's needs on top of my bills so I think "maybe" I deserve a little incentive! On the other hand, I can understand your frustration of having to pay every year, but look at things on the other side for a change. That extra cash each year is a blessing especially for a hardworking single parent.
And Secondly, whoever made the comment about the money being spent by "selfish" parents, you are soo naive. I'm pretty sure I am not the only parent who does this, but when Tax Return season comes around, its usually spent on things like debt, things needed for the house, or clothes the child may need. Its not always spent on what we want.
we would like to know who the asshole was that came up with the cutoff age to claim the child tax credit. our daughter is 18 and ajunior in high school. we cannot get the credit. guess the so called dickheads in washington figure all children are adults when they turn 17. why not change the law so as long as your kids have not graduated from school you can take the credit until they are at least 19. donot mean if they quit school, they would have to be in school and graduate.
I have to redo my taxes from 2009 plus do 2010 as well. I had my son June 2010 I know I can file him for this year but can I for 2009
This is to childless... The child tax credit doesn't come out of other peoples wages... it's what you paid in, unless people already live off of welfare. Then that's who you need to be pissed at. (Low-lifes)
"In certain cases, though, you can get a child tax credit refund when the credit exceeds your tax liability. This means that you would get a refund of the difference between your tax credit and what you owe in taxes."
Ah yes, this is also known as welfare. Congratulations on taking from your fellow man, and being a net drain on society.
First, my question. My youngest child is 17. Does the tax credit include her, or is it 16 and under?
Second....to those who speak of getting jobs, education, etc....do you think that all of us with children are voluntarily single, uneducated, and making crap wages? For your information, the unemployment rate is consistently rising making those of us with "experience" scrounging for minimum wage jobs while trying our best to go back to college to improve our situations. My husband passed away almost two years ago and he earned the majority of our combined income that paid a very good amount of taxes that we didn't get back. Every story is different and I am sure not one of us that receive and appreciate any break we can get along the way have put ourselves in the position we are in, intentionally. If there were a tax credit for being childless, would you shun it saying that it's wrong? Or would you spend a little more on the extras or necessities(in my case)?
For those wondering why people with children get tax breaks, if you really think about it, it makes sense.
First, you must understand that from day ONE, the GOVERNMENT considers EVERYONE a taxpayer. 17 is the cut-off for being considered a dependant because, at that point, the government deems you old enough to find a job yourself.
Here's kind of an example of the philosophy behind people with kids paying less taxes. This is just the concept and NOT exactly how it works. The figures are VERY broad, but I think it conveys my point.
If a mother and father have one child, and only one parent has a job while the other stays home with the child, that ONE job supports THREE taxpayers. If that job makes $30,000 a year, divided by 3, that equals out to $10,000 income per person. ONE salary supporting ONE person pays a SINGLE rate, but ONE salary supporting MULTIPLE people basically pays a MULTIPLE rate.
Anybody against paying less taxes due to having children should also be against married people paying less, since about the same concept applies. Just make the THREE in my example a TWO, deduct the child from the equation, and it's the same thing.
Of course, another reason for tax breaks for parents is that the government wants to give people more of an incentive to have children. Children ARE future taxpayers after all, and without future taxpayers, there is no future for government. The government is a lot like church in that aspect. Churches encourage their members to have children because the only way churches can continue to make money is from children who grow up.
I am curious, last year my greedy spouse took 11,000.00 out of 14,000.00 because that spouse paid bills for 4 months into the year while I have two kids and all the THREE of us got was 3,000.00 and he sat on his tail and still is not working and my oldest fell out of the child tax credit last year so I can only claim one child this time around and I want to file separately even though we are still married. Can I still qualify for that tax credit so we don't get hosed again this year?
I had a baby in september 2010 can I claim him on my 2010 taxes?
dont nobody no nothing until the w2 comes and you go file your taxes.. why is the earned income credit so important, i mean i have 2 kids and it would help out some, on top of the two jobs i have, but lets get it togther and be patient, you all will see. im out goodnight
I'm a 36yr old divorced mother. I have been paying out to uncle Sam since I was 16. I've never taken a vacation and have used a total of 32 sick days in my entire working life (I took two weeks off when my daughter was born, two weeks when my son was born, and 3 days out while in the hospital having surgery for internal bleeding). I have never received government aid for ANYTHING. Even when I was desperate and actually tried to get help from a foundation I had donated to for years, I was denied (I had donated almost $10,000 over the years and only needed $300). I'm a lot better off these days then I was then.
Here's my question....How in the h e l l are these individuals getting thousands of dollars back every year??? I'm lucky if I get anything back or break even. When I was single (no children), I always received a good majority of what I paid out back at the end of the year. Now I'm a single mother and I barely break even. Yes, I make more now than I did in the early days (39,000 compared to 17,000 a year).
Why are people that make less and pay less taxes getting more back. For example: A friend of mine (single mother) earnes approximately 21,000 a year and pays MAYBE 1,000 out in taxes. Every year, she gets about $4,000 or more back. How is that possible? How can she get almost 4X more than what she paid back???? How are people that make under 10,000 a year getting thousands back while I'm barely breaking even???
As for illegals...I agree that they shouldn't be receiving ANY government aid (ie legal citizen's money). My mother had to work very hard to come to the USA. She probably knows more about american history than I do and has never needed a hand out. So why are illegals who have not paid into the system, receiving from the system? Why are people who have never paid into Social Security or have paid very little, receiving SS above and beyond what they have put in?
Bottom line...everyone keeps talking about child tax credit this and people should not have children unless they can support them. I DO support my children with no help from you...I went to college with no help from you...I have lived under a park bench with no help from you...I have paid my share and probably your share of taxes too....Soooooo
Shut up and deal with it...Focus on your own damn family...BTW...for the single, without children types...I'm sure your parents were happy to collect for you...Why don't you tell them what you told everyone here...I wonder how well that would go over....
Are you guys really that retarded? It looks like it. I can't believe some people can't think of why we would get a refund credit. Ok, seriously. Think of it this way, you paid $100 for a set of concert tickets (yes, using this analogy because I imagine most of you f#$kers are young b.shes that only care about yourselves and music) Then the ticket sales man says "ohh, you paid a deposit, you only owe me $75, so here's your $25"
get it now? Throughout the year, you don't think that we PAY THAT FKIN MONEY OUT IN THE FIRST PLACE? Diapers. SHITTONS OF DIAPERS... baby food. Binkies, clothes, blankets, ACCESSORIES THAT MAKES YOUR DAY EASIER, such as CRIBS, and WALKERS... Yeah, we don't have to spend more money than you. SO! You think we DON'T PAY TAXES ON ALL THIS EXTRA SH.T? Comon man, THINK A BIT... dumbasses.
There are a TON of families out there, with both parent's working their azzes off making a DAM HONEST LIVING, and STRUGGLING! House payments / Rent, Utilities, FOOD, Household stuff, MEDICINE, GAS PRICES, unexpected emergencies... AND THAT'S ON TOP OF THE STUFF FOR THE KID. With all this money going out, you dont' think we pay more taxes through purchases? You can't think of just taxes from paychecks. What's that? When I pay for my groceries my monies don't go to the same taxes? How so? Lets see, we buy gas and food at local sh.tmart right? Who's paying their employees? The owner? WE ARE! We pay them through the purchases. Guess what, that money in return gets taxed from the income! Outta luck there shitlock holmes.
Look, guys, stop being dumbazzes and putting down ppl without having a good cause. Hell, even if you had a good cause, STFU and HELP PPL! That's why this world's going to sh.t! Because of gutless, thoughtless fags like yourselves.
have a rice day.
HELL YALL PAY FOR SCHOOLS SO CHILDREN WILL HAVE A GOOD EDUCATION...SHIT YALL WENT TO HEAD START,ELEMENTARY,JR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL AT ONE POINT!!! HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU WENT TO SCHOOL,WITH DECENT FUNDING? OR DID YALL FORGET THAT...ONE DAY YALL WILL HAVE KIDS WHO WILL BE IN SCHOOL TOO,JUST BC YALL AINT GOT THEM NOW,DONT MEAN YOU NEVER WILL,THEN YOU GOING TO BE EATING YOUR WORDS BC YALL GONNA WANT THEM REFUNDS TOO!!
im sitting here laughing at the ingorant people who are always trying to speak on how other people are living, for the non-parents complaning on the situation at hand... how are yall going to say it when most yall still are dependent and your parents will be getting one for you? i am 23 years old,i dont live off government handouts,i work hard for very dollar i earn. not a hand out darling, and the reason why we get a refund is because we have extra cost for example child care, diapers, milk, depending on how old your child is,not every child is old enough to go to school,or let alone take care of themselves...yall act like we are going to take the money and get our hair done,or buy clothes and other shit for are selves,ITS GOING TO THE CHILDREN AND I DONT SEE A DAMN THING WRONG WITH THAT!!! hell i used to work and my check would go straight to daycare 180 a week!! so fuckin right i am happy that the gov. is helping with children,bc baby until your a parent you will never understand and you cant speak on it...ignorance!! maybe if they had a credit for that yall could get a whole bunch of shit back!!
Smh this is ridiculous
I am a single mother and full time college student. I stopped working for my last year of college and have not paid any taxes in this past year. I did not earn the child tax credit last year. For of Financial Aid issues, would I be able to file some sort of taxes? I have paid child care costs and bought over a thousand dollars worth of books from the grant money I recieve. I am also head of household, only my daughter and I.
i never heard of the refund before now, i worked all year 2009 and got my taxes, and worked jan-feb 2010 and am due for my baby dec2 this year(week) will i get a refund in this upcoming taxes for the baby? i alos get ssi
I have two kids and only made 8,000.00 in 2010, and had 3 exeptions on my tax. will i get anything back for taxes.
Childfree 4 weeks ago
I think that the childfree should get a tax credit for NOT having kids.... it doesn't seem fair that people can pop-out 2,3,4,5 kids and get all this extra money from the gov, while the childfree have to pay huge taxes for things that they will never use like schools for kids.
ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID OBVIOUSLY YOU HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL BUT DIDN'T LEARN MUCH OR LEARN TO RESPECT YOUR PARENTS GROWING UP (WHY SHOULD YOU PAY TAXES FOR SCHOOLS) LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU FIGURED THIS OUT
i really hope some of these posts are the result of someone trying to be humorous, especially the first several posts. If they were, then I laughed until I cried. If not, then I just cried at the sadness.
You will only be able to claim 2 dependent children on your tax return. Also look into the earned income credit for three children I am almost certain it's 5087.00 for the 2010 tax year.
Do you get child tax credit for 3 children in 2010-11?
To everyone who is childless, eventually the majority o you on here bitching will have them it's inevitable.I have been working since I was 14 so has my huband and for many years we were the childless couple who paid in an astonimical amount and never received much back at the end of the year. You are not paying to support my children I AM.We are taxpayers just like the rest of america.I did not have children to receive a handout from the government, I was not even aware of it until I filed my taxes the year after I had my oldest.I have never received ANY type of assistance. No welfare, foodstamps, medicaid nothing. We support our children by our income and they have the best of everything even if my husband and I do without.I am aware that some people do spend majority of it on themselves we dont. The most we have spent on ourselves is 200.00 and that was for car insurance. The rest of the are you ready to drool, 11003.00 was spent on my children.I also only have two children. So get off this page because the majority of you skanks are probably on welfare and thats why your bitching because you dont work therefore cannot get a refund.
if i worked only six months out the year and made 3,600 dollars and have five dependent three kids and two adults how much would i get back in return.
eVERY PENNY HELPS NOWADAYS. EVEN IF IT IS AT THE EXPENSE OF SOMEONE MORE FORTUNATE. THE PEOPLE WHO ARE CONTRIBUTING MONEY INTO THE LIVES OF THE LESS FORTUNATE WILL HAVE THAT HELP THERE FOR THEM AS WELL. GIVE AND LET LIVE. YOU CANT ALWAYS BE GREEDY IN THIS WORLD. I DONATE TO FOUNDATIONS AND I ALWAYS HELP SOMEONE IN NEED TO SOME EXTENT. IN THE END WE ARE ALL IN IT FOR OURSELVES BECAUSE THE MAN BEHIND ME WOULD KILL ME KNOWING I HAD SOMETHING BETTER THEN HIM, SO HE CAN SURVIVE.
PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE, WE AS A COUNTRY NEED TO UNDERSTAND HOW TO TAKE HITS AS A WHOLE AND MOVE ON FROM STUPIDITY.
ALL WE CAN DO PEOPLE IS EXPECT THE WORST AND HOPE FOR THE BEST. GOOD LUCK.
Seems like a better plan is needed for long term change, instead of just bantering back and forth - those with kids want the credit, those with no kids don't want the credit available - makes sense on both sides.
Would make more sense to think it through a little better with a longer timeframe in mind.
How about if we start in 2011, and start a child tax of $1000/year/child for any kids born in 2011 and after until they are 18 yo. Those that already have kids aren't affected. Those that don't have kids yet will think more before having them as to whether or not they can afford to support them.
Once the kid starts school at 5 yo, give the parent/s a $2000 voucher to be used for school, no matter if they send them to public/private/charter school. If sending to public, the $2000 would cover the student for the year, state would make up any additional needed.
Private and charter schools would accept the voucher, parents would make up the difference there if needed.
Considering the US adds about 4 million kids per year, parents would be paying towards the education of their kids for the first 4/5 years, while the dollars would be earning interest to then start paying for the $2000 voucher for while the kid is in school for 13 years.
Parents are the ones that should be committed to supporting their kids and their kid's education - not the govt. If you the parents can't afford them, it's pretty simple - they shouldn't have had them.
Too many people think public education is free.
It's not free, and is a huge drain on the govt to pay for it.
Why should a family with no kids be penalized and have to pay into a system s/he will never use, while families with many kids get those 'free services' paid for by many others?
The justification that they need help in a bad economy doesn't fly. Everybody needs help in a bad economy.
Maybe if there's a disincentive to have so many kids, rather than an incentive to keep having more, our population would even then grow by less than 4 million a year to a rate more sustainable into the future.
The population growth trend has to reverse at some point obviously, yet it seems all anybody in the comments is interested in is 'what's in it for me' rather than looking at the bigger problem with more of a 'what's best for us all, and how do we go about doing that' attitude.

Hey Pat, Illegals don't pay taxes, they are paid under the table. Get it? Legal U.S. citizens are sick and tired of illegals and their "anchor babies" getting free education, free school lunch, free healthcare, free WIC, free food stamps, free SSI, SSDI, Housing, and the list goes on and on with social services. They have helped to ruin California that has a 25 billion dollar deficit. Mexico has many problems, and I can see why people would want to leave, but it does not make your behavior (illegally coming here) ok. We're fed up!!
If you dont like paying taxes then dont work or go to another country. no matter what you say or think you will always pay taxes!!!
and to american and j.....even the "illegals" as you call them. pay taxes as well. they get money deducted from their pay check as well! and they are the ones who work in agriculture...when have you got up at 3 or 4 am in the morning to work out in the cold and the heat!?? for up to 12 hours a day! not all mexicans are drug dealers or bad people. we deserve to live well. but you know what? Thats why i left your country...lived there all of my life! rather come to my true roots. Mexico Lindo y Querido. Remember we are fighting for our people and helping protect your butt from drugs being crossed to your country and our people are being killed here even children! more then 50% of U.S. Citizens consume the drugs maybe you guys should do something about your addicts!!!!!. WE are the ones who really suffer here. We got your companies giving us pay for 50 dlls a week here???? WTH!? come on! they make millions of dlls!
To all of the childless posters in this section - why are you even posting here? Are you looking to find some satisfaction in insulting those with kids? Aren't you in the wrong section to begin with? And if you have so many negative opinions towards the child tax credit...quit being a baby about it yourself and HAVE KIDS!!! It's not our fault that God has damned you to a world of lonliness. Get over it and grow up!!

wow at the people making less then 7000 a year and asking how much their children are worth...heres a suggestion get an education and a real job and stop depending on handouts. they need to give people who decided to NOT have kids and rely on the government a handout.
i have worked all year and every year before this i have a child as well and to top it off i go to school too so if iam getting a little help at the end of the year so what you feel what iam getting is directly out your pockets than it is what it is. my money is being taken too if thats the case quit hating because if you was offered some money back you would take it too
I think that the childfree should get a tax credit for NOT having kids.... it doesn't seem fair that people can pop-out 2,3,4,5 kids and get all this extra money from the gov, while the childfree have to pay huge taxes for things that they will never use like schools for kids.
Its very informative about tax credit. Good matter i got from your hub. Thanks for sharing this hub.
for all those who are dissing people go get a blog. I'm sure no one will read it but you can enjoy just knowing you put your two cents out for every to see and wish they didn't. As far as any of the RUDE people saying we shouldn't get eic's you must not have children. My sons father works very hard and I'm starting my own biz so I can stay at home with our son. WE EARN EVERY CENT THAT COMES OUR WAY! We are working very hard for our son to have a better life and I believe your just mad because you don't qualify, however I bet you take full advantage of evey deduction you can and if you qualified you would put in to receive yours too. Putting people down for trying to do the best they can to give their kids a great life you should be ashamed and I feel sorry for you because you must not know the kind of love a parent has for their child! WE WORK HARD PROBABLY HARDER THAN YOU!
Why do you have to get online and ridicule people? Grow up! Second this article is very informative about the tax credit! I guess if you still don't get it then call a tax specialist and have them explain it to you. Have a wonderful night!
If i made 44k for the year and i have one dependant(7 yrs old) do i qualify for the $1k tax cred.? i did not get last yr for some reason, i thought maybe they had suspended for the previous yr.. pls advise.thx
if people are ignorant than please help them not insult them maybe this country would be better off... think of that!!!
Wow! So much ignorance in this country, and I'm sorry to say that country is America!
SAD
what is the max you can get back for 1 chil and the least you can get?
if ihave one child which is 1 will i get a credit i never heard of this
@American~ Very well said. :)
I have a question, how much do you have to make during the year to be able to file taxes and get the EIC? I heard it was $3000, is that correct?
Does the child tax credit go down when your child reaches 1 year old ?
yall should worry about the illegals jumping the borders, i wonder how many taxes they get back because they multiply like roaches!! welfare, food stamps, etc.
specially? is that a word? no wonder why no one understands taxes...because idiots like you.
Hello well i think it good that the government gives money my husband is the only one working i have 3 kids and im studying(im in Income Tax Courses) and it a great classes so there so much stuff that we dont know! but everyone needs this money specially in this economy!!!
My child was born in Sep'2009 and we had to take him to home country in Dec'09. Will I be eligible for Child Tax Credit in 2009?
wtf??????!!!! no one answers these so why ask!!
For the two who say it isn't right to get a tax credit for children because the parents don't pay the money in. You're completely ignorant. My boyfriend works very hard so that I can stay home and raise our baby girl. He works and we support our child without living off the government. He pays taxes and yes we will get the tax credit, but that's just like when you're 25 and get the eic for just working. Get over it!
That's mean. My husband works very
hard to support our family. We have
5 children together and we paid in
about $15,000 in taxes last yr. Yes
we got a decent refund because of
the tax credit. Not everyone who gets
the credit is living off of the government.
And as a matter of fact the money DOES
get spent on the kids!!! Please reserve
Judgement as every situation is different.
does anyone actually give the thousands of dollars to their kids? or do they just keep it and spend it on themselves.. selfish people
Yall folks crazy about the taxes for the Hoes that was very funny
Who in gods name can we thank for such a stupid thing, as long as child is still n school he should be able to have the credit.
Time to start looing real hard into our leaders who make such rules
@Childless
I agree with you, I'm only 19 so i haven't ever paid anything in but i supported my self and went to school in 09 but the government ain't giving me no hand out, maybe we should get a few illegitimate children so we can get free handouts?
This whole child tax credit pisses me off. Why does a person need to get money on taxes because they have kids. I work and make a paycheck just like they do and I don't get rewarded. If you have kids they are your responsibility. Not mine. The government sure doesn't have a hard time telling people on social security that the don't get a cost of living raise. Tell people they can raise their own kids without a government handout. It just pisses me off that people get $1000's back at the end of the year when they haven't hardly paid anything in.
Good question....pimps and hoes are exempt from paying taxes that is all tax free income.... way to go. Taxes Suck!! I never see any type of refund just keep paying into the system.
greenguy: you didn't EarN money, thats why you received $70.
me: if I were you, claim your son
pimp Daddy: pull your head out of your a$$
lcoronado: are you raising that grandchild....is he or she lliving with you fulltime.....then yes, the parents cannot do the same though.
LR: learn to spell....don't use CAPS on-line because its shouting. What numbers? you claim yourself and your child=2
lisa: go to turbo tax or tax act.com.....go fill in the blanks for free and find out yourself how much your getting back.
Elizabeth: did your child live with you fulltime?...if yes than yes.
Jessica: do you have any EARNED income? if yes then yes
danea jerry: you need to get serious about your life
I have a daughter who is 11 and my daughters father has another child who is 7 who he pays child support to as well. He is in arrears with both of us but this is the first year he's paying child support to the other child. Will his Federal tax return go 100% to me or do they split it between both children?
Can a pimp claim his hoes as dependents? Also, how would a full time hoe go about filing for a tax return?
I find it amazing that yet again my tax money is going to support other people's children. Last year I got to "contribute" around $5000 in addition to what was taken out though out the year. That is more than several of you have posted as your yearly salary! Keep having more kids, they are worth $1000 of someone else's money. You're Not Welcome.
I have 2 kids and normally get 2k on top of my refund, this year i collected unemployment all year, and when i do my taxes on turbo tax it says my child tax credit is $70..... wtf? wheres my 2k? is it becuz i didnt "earn" any money?
How do i know who would get more money for claiming my son. I made 7300 and his father made 20000. not sure which way to go if i should claim him or his father we are not married.
if I made money but my boss was not taking taxes out but she files a I-99 (not sure if that's right) form on me will I still get money back for my eic for my daughter.... I know that means ill have to pay taxes but if I made 4000 the eic should cover the taxes I owe and I should get money back correct??
I am a college student (age 23) I am listed as a dependent under my parents taxes. For the purposes of health insurances, education. However, I just had a Baby (not married) in 2009. I did work and attempted to complete my tax returns but it was rejected because I was listed as a dependent under my father's taxes. Can I still get the child tax credit if I am listed as a dependent?
I have a grandchild that was born 01/2009. Do I qualify for the EIC and what is the amount of EIC?
I MADE ROUGHLY 2000 AT 1 JOB I CLAIMED 1 MYSELF
I LEFT THAT POSITION AND I WAS PRENGAT AND I WORK 2 DIFFERNT JOBS NOW AND I CLAIM BOTH AT 0. MY DAUGHTER IS 6 MONTHS OLD BORN JULY2009. SO AT THE END OF THE YEAR DO I CLAIM 2? WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THE DIFFERNT NOMBERS?
If I get EIC for my non dependent full time student daughter can she get EIC for her 6mos son.
if i am 17 and my mother is till carrying me as a dependent but i now have a 1 year old, would i be able to file my own taxes with a dependent under me while she's still carrying me.
I MADE 18,000 THIS YEAR. AND LEFT WORK FOR MATERNITY. I had my baby in August 19,2009. I also have a 9 year old child.
ball park how much will I get back. Also I fixed my w-2 where not much federal tax was withheld.
If my husband gets SSI cause he is disabled and that is our only income can i still claim our daughter for income tax
If for most of the year I only earned part time income for a less than half the year do I still qualify for head of household, child tax credit.?
if ma daughter is 1 and im 18 can i still file for income tax
Elvee, the answer is no,the child must have been "BORN"in the tax year being claimed.
It's been a couple of decades since I took the credit, but the general guidelines have stayed consistant.
If a "child" is unborn then the child is non-qualifying.
I'm pregnant and my child will be born feb 2010 can I claim her when filing my 2009 taxes!?
@wtf and Brittany:
we all know what she meant and the comment section is for tax questions, not to bash other people or their comments, if you want to do that then go blog about it somewhere else
how much is your child worth? lol damn i hope she priceless u idiot and let me guess u live off the government in all aspects now u want hand outs
wow really how much is she worth??? did u have kids to get more money
I have a 18 yr old son that is disabled and a 17 yr old daughter....am I still eligable for the eic????
i am 20 years old and my baby is 1 36 months..i heard she is worth 1500$ and 4000$..which one is true?
Ideally would I in the 15% bracket or my fiance in the 25% bracket get back more for claiming our child? Who should claim him?
I have had my niece as a foster child in my home since Aug. 2009. Can I still take the tax credit for her? and just in case you know... can I take the daycare expenses for her as a deduction?
If i only made 2900 this year and have a child thats a year old can i file taxes still?
For those of you getting paid under the table, you get nothing. For cryfirmenot, were your earnings W-2 wages or pass-through earnings? If they are W-2 you won't get the child tax credit because you are under the taxable earned income level of $8500.00 but you should qualify for EIC. If it is pass-through income then you qualify for zip because you don't have earned income. Your accountant should be able to explain this, if not find a new accountant.
I made total of 1700.00 in 2008. Turbo Tax showed 1300.00 as Child Credit refund for my two children. Does it look correctly calculated?
TurboTax (online) is only putting $650 in for my CTR. ANybody else see this?
if i made 4200.00 under the table, can i get money back for my baby i had in 2008, im single and was wondering if i could still get the child tax return?
My son is a US citizen, but he is not with me for the whole of 2008, I was taking care of his expenses and he was in India under his grandmother's care.
He is back with me in oct 2008. Still he qaulifies as my dependent to cliam the child tax credit?
Last year I made 13000 more than this year. I received the full child tax credit of 8000. this year it says that I am only "qualify for a limited" tax credit of 6262. why is this?
I have 2 kids under 17 they go to daycare and we own oour own S corperation. We are a small business and me and my partner only made 16000.00 combined income for the year 2008. Our accountant informed us that we get no return and have to payin 100.00 to 200.00 this year for our personal taxes. We paid 8300.00 for child care last year as well. Why are we4 not getting a return for child tax credit.
If my mother was the child care provider and I payed her for her to provide care for my 3 year old in 2008 would I qualify for child tax credit?
ehere do u get th form
if i made 1800.00 under the table, can i get money back for my 2 yr old son, im married but husband owes back child support so i want to file married but siling seperatly and want to claim my son
yes, even if your child was born 1 day before 2009 you will still qualify for the 2008 tax credits! nice little bonus huh?
IF MY CHILD IS 5 MONTHS DO I QUALIFY FOR A TAX CREDIT?
What if child IS 17? Do they have to be UNDER 17? Or it is 17 and under?
"The total you can take is $1,000 per child, although part of that can be a tax credit, and the rest in a refund. Families with three or more children can calculate the refundable credit as they did last year if it results in a larger amount."
now that just amazing
I have 3 children, 2 are under 17. Do I get a tax credit check?

I am a single mother of 7 children all under 9 years old. I am unsure how to do my tax return. I don't know how to find or get a hold of any of their daddys. So do I get the child tax credit? I haven't been able to file the last several years. I guess I need to catch up but I can't find anyone to watch my younguns. I might have another one in the oven, not sure if I can claim that one yet. Can anyone help me?
